Jess Evans (b.1996) is a London-based contemporary British artist whose practice centres on drawing as a meditative daily discipline. Using oil pastels for their vibrancy and immediacy, she builds a visual language from the tension between nature and the urban environment, rooted in her childhood on the suburban edge of London. Influenced by surrealism's desire to surface the unconscious, and by a lifelong attentiveness to the natural world, her work is driven by an environmental concern expressed not through protest but through presence: the belief that slowing down to look is the first act of caring. She extends that inquiry across stained glass, ceramics, and mosaics, drawing on her influences of expressionism and graphic art.
Evans graduated with First Class Honours in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins, including a semester at the Pratt Institute in New York in 2017, where she was recognised on the President's List for outstanding achievements. In 2024, she graduated from the London School of Muralism based at Goldsmiths University. That same year she created a large-scale mural for Small Beer in Crouch End and contributed to two further large-scale mural projects. In 2019, she curated Murmurations at Candid Arts Trust, an exhibition featuring the work of 56 graduate artists. Professionally, she works as an Art Consultant for an interior design company, overseeing the concept, production, and installation of artworks on major cruise-line projects.
